The crash happened around 10:38 p.m., Tuesday, July 30, when Bridgeport Police responded to a report of a serious crash at Tony's Smoke Shop on Main Street, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police.

An investigation of the incident found that a 23-year-old Seymour man was driving a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer southbound on Main Street at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed Main Street into the northbound lane, Jones said.

The vehicle then left the roadway, struck the sidewall of Tony’ Smoke Shop, and came to a stop partially inside the business. Tony’s Smoke Shop was closed at the time of the accident, Jones said.

The Bridgeport Fire Department quickly arrived on the scene and extricated the driver and front passenger from the vehicle. Both were transported to St Vincent's Hospital via AMR ambulance.

The driver sustained non-life threatening injuries. The passenger, a Stratford man, is listed in critical condition, Jones reported.

The Bridgeport Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to conduct a further investigation.
